DRD Faces Insurance Woes

It is with a heavy heart that as of 26 March 2019 at 23:59hrs, Dublin Roller Derby has been unable to secure insurance and we will be unable to continue with training until the issue is sorted.

The Irish Insurance market is currently in turmoil due to Brexit. There is no appetite for risk in public liability, which is the type of insurance our training venue require us, and all other sports leagues, to hold to use any of their facilities.
Many businesses and sports leagues are in trouble due to an inability to get insurance or have had a premium spike that makes their operation unsustainable.

Since being made aware that we wouldn't be offered a new policy at renewal, we have contacted dozens of insurers, brokers, and other sports leagues and associations to try to negotiate cover. We are continuing to work on a solution. It is regrettable that we have not managed a solution in time to maintain a seamless training schedule.

To this effect, we would like to thank the Dublin City Council facility in St. Michael’s Estate for all their support.

If anyone is in any position to help, be it with insurance or by being able to provide access to a hall or venue through work or family, please get in touch.
